Lesotho is an independent country entirely surrounded by
South Africa. Unusually for Africa, most of the country is over 1,800 metres above sea level and it even has a ski resort. It has
a liitle under two million inhabitants, with an unemployment rate of around 45% and
over 30% of the population suffers from HIV/AIDS.

Sesotho |
Not everyone in Lesotho speaks English, so you may want to try your
hand at the local language, Sesotho. Everybody is very friendly and
conversations start with both "Hello" and "How are
you". Elizabeth rang a call centre in Lesotho and ended up
having a really pleasant chat with them.

Border
Issues
|
The river appears to make a natural border between the
north-west of Lesotho and its neighbour, South Africa - but appearances
can be deceptive.
